Tourmaline Pendant Commission
The story of this pendant starts with this ring…
A few years ago one of our lovely customers asked us to commission her the teal tourmaline ring shown in the photo above. She came back into the workshop earlier this year and asked us to design her a pendant to match her ring! We had a mint tourmaline pendant in stock that she loved, so she wanted a design to replicate our pendant, modified slightly to showcase the teal colours from her diamond and tourmaline ring.
Our first task was to find a tourmaline that was a very similar colour match to the one we used in her ring. We spent a few weeks liaising with our stone suppliers, sifting through many shades of teal tourmalines until we had found a few that we thought were a good match. After coming into the workshop to view the stones we had selected, our customer chose her favourite one. Although it was the perfect shade, we felt that the shape wasn’t quite right for this style of pendant. We decided to have it re-cut into a soft cushion shape. It was also decided to use lab grown diamonds alongside the tourmaline to help reduce costs.
Once the stones had been chosen, it was time to make the settings that would hold them in place. Due to the design of this pendant, this piece was made using CAD (computer aided design) as it allows us to be more precise when making each setting. We decided to have a very minimal bail (top loop) as we wanted the main focus to be on the stones rather than the metal work. Our model was then made by our CAD designer before being printed and cast in 9ct yellow gold. After this, the next stage was to have each of the gemstones rub set into the metal before a final clean and polish to bring the sparkles to life…

A very special teal tourmaline and lab grown diamond pendant, rub set in 9ct yellow gold. Our customer decided upon a 9ct yellow gold filed trace style chain and we think it works beautifully alongside her gorgeous pendant. She now has the ultimate matching teal tourmaline jewellery set!
